egoist: whirl wind romance.
Junjou Egoist focuses on the relationship between Kusama Nowaki and Kamijou Hiroki.
Junjou Egoist begins with the tale of Hiroki’s futile, one-sided love for his childhood friend, Akihiko, the writer in Romantica. Hiroki, consumed by his unspoken and agonizing feelings, seeks to further his relationship with Akihiko. The realization that his friend's painful, one-sided love towards Takahiro would never bear fruit prompts Hiroki to act on his feelings: he seduces Akihiko.
Hiroki offers Akihiko sex under the pretense of friendly comfort so that he (Akihiko) could channel his frustrations and desire for Takahiro. This notion of "help," however, is the embodiment of Hiroki's longing. It justifies Hiroki's desire to feel Akihiko's warmth and paves way to the possibility of Akihiko finally recognizing his (Hiroki's) harbored feelings. To Hiroki's dismay however, his plan backfires: there is no victory of any kind, only regret. Whispering someone else's name while embracing another is blasphemous and the instant Akihiko utters, "Takahiro," Hiroki's love for his childhood friend shatters. Akihiko's fear of losing his friendship with Takahiro due to his fervor hinders him from confessing, a feat Hiroki knows all too well. He is after all, a prey of unrequited love.
After his proposal's demise, Hiroki subsequently finds himself sitting in the park, ruminating over his intimate encounter with Akihiko. His embrace should've been enough to reveal his affections — but it wasn't. Because of his pride, Hiroki was unable to assert his feelings. A lone tear slowly falls but before Hiroki could wipe it off, a "rocket" falls in front of him, interrupting his impending tears. Nowaki arrives soon after, weaving the very first strands of Egoist. And as his namesake entails, Nowaki hurls Hiroki into a "typhoon" that is seemingly impossible to get out of.
